Bullsharks/not bull----

The Drudge report is carrying an account of a fishing boat being repeatedly rammed by bullsharks and finally stove-in by a 14ft Bullshark. Despite pumping efforts the boat sunk off Ft. Meyers FL.

Well, I can tell you from experience, they are a bunch there. Big ones too. Never heard about them sinking a boat though... except in Jaws. Of course, with the fishing trawlers that are there (which I have seen) it would not take a bunch to sink them!!

Oh, and by the way since that is my cruising grounds, I will also tell you that the water close to the river is pretty murky/brackish. You cannot see a foot in front of you. About 3-5 miles offshore it really clears up. I wonder if that is why the attack??

Sounds like a big fish story to me!!!!

as a dive instructor that spends a lot of time in the region doing shark dives you have to be doing a LOT!!! of chumming or have the shark on a hook for it to hit the boat!!

Brian,

That is what you are doing all wrong!!! You are going about getting sharks the wrong way!! What you need to do is go snag a Tarpon on the Charlotte Harbor Inlet and you will have a hammer or bull before you can say, "Ohh CRAP!! ANother one!!"

HAHA!!!

Local television interviewed the guy last night, said there was a school of bull sharks but the 14 footer bent his drive shaft and he began taking on water but was towed in. Showed the boat out of the water and the drive shaft being repaired. Captain said he was taking a hiatus from fishing!!!

Hey PB,

As far as heading out, not real sure yet. Everything is taking forever and I am so busy at work (well, er, and sailnet) it is hard to finish what I have to finish. Trying though...

- CD

PS You still looking at march/april?

Yep, at this point. Finally started filling in the back of the deck with epoxy today, so I'll have the dinghy davits mounted by next week. Then comes the rudder sensor for the new A/P, and finishing up the DC wiring. I'm ready to go sailing, enough of this working. Heck, I didn't work this hard when I got paid for it!
