Great article Cruisingdad! Congrats! In case no one knew Lats & Att is up for sale. Bob said so at the Philly Strictly Sail! He has started his cruising plans now. He is presently in Mexico, Cabo I believe. So you can find Lost Souls down there!

Melrna,

Thanks for the complement!

No, I did not know it was up for sale. I wonder if that has anything to do with the tv show?? Make it more attractive for a buyer??

Don't know. But thanks.

I love it! A nice little "slice of cruising life" story, CD - Are you going to send in more? You know, a lot of people complain about the hit or miss writing quality in Lats & Atts, but 75% of the mag is written by people just like you. Some people are better writers than others (you're in the better category). No matter what, though, when you read something in that magazine, you know it is from true, first hand cruising experience - not by a writer who was sent on assignment by the editor to create a story. I read the other mags, too, and do appreciate them for their "professional" writing. But I appreciate Lats & Atts for the reality and experiences of the writers.

And Bob and I created the TV show two years ago in order to infect, er, I mean expose more sailors to the magazine. Plus, Bob has a history of being the first to do things in the publishing world - the first to use desk top publishing for a national magazine (Biker magazine on an old Apple IIe) and the first national rag to go completely digital from design to print (Lats & Atts). And so it was that he wanted to be the first sailing magazine to have a TV show. As he likes to say, "It was a no brainer, and when it comes to no brains, I got 'em!"

One more thing on the sale of the magazine. 10 years ago when he and Jody returned from their world cruise and started Lats & Atts, Bob said let's do it for 10 years, build it up and sell it, and go cruising again (he successfully created and sold Biker and Tattoo magazines previously). True to his word - which you can always count on with him - that's exactly what he's doing. And anyone who buys it - which will not be a big media conglomerate as he wants to sell to a private individual or company who won't ruin it - will be smart enough to keep Bob on as managing editor and let him be the "personality" that is Lats & Atts.

As far as the TV show being more attractive for a buyer, he's having way too much fun and wants to keep doing it (even though we are still way deep in debt from the start up - TV production ain't cheap!). After 30 years in the publishing business, he really likes the new challenge of television. Plus, our production company - Kewl Productions - is just now finalizing an agreement to produce "WoodenBoat TV". That's going to be fun.

Dad,
I'm waiting for the local mailgirl to finish my copy before she delivers it.

hey, how 'bout a story featuring a cranky old fart thats had 6 heart attacks, a pacemaker/defib, a cuban and her 13 year old...

I'd call it... "what the hell was that for? "
(ok, i know, everyone just wants pics of the cuban)

We are not primarily on earth to see through one another, but to see one another through

Got my copy last night Cruisingdad and just read your article...Excellent. I think we can all relate to that story.

I didn't realize L&A was for sale. Last night when I got this copy I was thinking how it was full of great stuff. 226 pages. It seems to have gradually gotten better and better....Lots of color and a unique homespun syle. kewl. I think it's my favorite sailing rag now.

Bob Bitchin's story about getting back out to sea on "Lost Soul" after 10 years was also good. I haven't met the guy, but he sounds like he is living life to the fullest.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things y%^&*.....oh never mind. 90% of the people on sailing forums already use that as their signature! I'm not a conformist.
