Ever seen a chartplotter that can display wind direction etc??

I recently bought a Raymarine C80 for another boat. It's really cool because it lets me segment the screen in a variety of ways to show different data. I can have 1/2 the screen be chartplotter and the other half be data fields, or I can have 1/3 the screen be chartplotter and divide the remaining space into two boxes; those being a fishfinder or depth. The possibilities seem endless. What it can't display is a graphical representation of a wind speed and direction indicator. If it could, I'd buy a second C80 (or E80) for my sailboat. I asked Raymarine about this because it seemed like such a good solution for applications like mine since both devices support SeaTalk and NMEA. To my surprise, they don't have any such initiative underway.

Has anybody seen a chartplotter that lets you include a wind speed and direction indicator on a segment of the screen?

The Ray Sl70/72RC series used to let you do this with nema wind data...but they've stopped selling them. You might find one used though. Good machines...I still have one at the helm.

Thanks for the info on the earlier models. I'm wondering if the models you mention are known by other names. I can't find much info about them, even in the Raymarine manual archives.

The manuals are in the raymarine archives...they are under RADAR...not chartplotters.

The new Garmin units that support the XM Weather Radio might be able to do this... but I'm not sure... YMMV.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Thanks. I've seen the satellite weather displayed on the Raymarine. It shows wind barbs based on the input form the satellite weather feed. I'm looking for a display from a masthead transducer. It seems like this should be very easy.

I don't see that as being something that anyone would make, since you could just have a wind instrument repeater next to your GPS Chartplotter. I'd imagine that the Raymarine gear can probably display wind direction as a little window, if it is tied into your wind instruments, since their more advanced chartplotters can display navigation data as well.

Also, this isn't all that useful if you think about it... you generally know what the wind direction is where you are, and having it on the chartplotter doesn't really add much. A masthead transducer can't help you with anything but local wind conditions. The Raymarine unit can help you with immediate route planning decisions since it is nearly real-time wind data and not exactly local to the boat, but reasonably nearby.

I don't know who you talked to at raymarine or don't understand your question. I have an E80 installed two years ago, in one of the modes displaying the ship I have the option to show an apparent wind direction
arrow. I can also display the wind speed true or apparent in a divided display box. You do have to have the single instruments for the chart plotter to draw from, but it will display on the E80. I have ST60 tri data and ST60 wind direction instrument. I can also display all the information below on my flat screen with the remote control. I usually display boat speed (gps), wind speed wind direction and depth on the screen.
