Velux Race

Well I was distracted and just recently remembered that there was a big race going on. All I see are 5 boats and they are four 60s with one 50, all extreme racers with logos everywhere.

This is probably gonna be a dumb question but where are the 40 footer, home grown teams? Is there a new regulation?

In the last "Around Alone" I was rooting for others at first but I grew to like that crazy Canadian Mountie. The home grown efforts might not do 300 mile days but they make me feel closer to the race.

I'm interviewing that crazy Canadian next month. He's back with a 60 footer. I've interviewed him before. He's the toughest completely average man you'll ever meet, if that makes any sense at all. I'm looking at a sawed-off piece of the core of his new boat as I type this. Good thing I can touch type!

Cool. I was wondering where Derek was for this race.

Nice new boat. I liked the hull construction pics.

If he can face years of fundraising, rubber chickens and answering the same dopey questions of lubberly lake sailors, he's got the right stuff for solo-all-oceans...
