Bulk Head Diesel Heater Question?

I'm moving aboard in a few months and have been researching defferent ways to heat my boat. I've pretty much settled on a bulkhead mounted diesel heater. My question is can you run it while underway? Also I'd like to hear any feed back from those who have these. Would you recommend gravity feed or fuel pump feed from the tank? Any other advice would be apprecieated. Thanks, Brandon

How about a pump feed to the tank and then gravity feed from the tank (with an in-line shutoff valve.

Take a look at "The Warm, Dry Boat", a wonderful book. It has lots of diesel-heater info.

Yes, you can run it underway. Camaraderie has a good idea -- a day-tank for the heater.

If I recall correctly, that's what the Pardeys use...a 10 gallon tank strapped on the cabintop underside, with a deck fill and then just a gravity feed to their sole-mounted kerosene heater.

Of course, they must draw off this tank to fill their nav lights and cabin lights as well, being as they are a bit old-school.

The diesel heater in my boat ( which I am removing ) has the tank which looks to be 4 gallons or so, mounted on the cabin, topsides. It is aso gravity feed.

I like the idea of an electric fuel pump to the day tank. The only problem was where to mount the tank, the underside of the coachroof is a great idea. How about the vent for the day tank? Where do you have that run? I want to limit the holes in the cabin top aas much as possible. Thanks
