BF, they don't really use rail meat. They have water ballast and canting keels.
All crew are at least over 15 years experienced and "hand picked"....it take not only skill as a sailor, but an upmost mental attitude to whitsand sailing like that around the World, day and night non stop (except for the few stops they do). These guys are completely nuts.
I met the Brazilian team here in Portugal, where they trained after the qualifying stage (they also hit a whale). Torban Grael is the best sailor in Brasil, and they all looked nuts....the boat has absolutely no living conditions, and they even cut the handles of their toothbrushes to save weight...it takes a few kind....mentally prepared for that...
