The question is do YOU know how to complete such a splice ? Most BN's know.... amongst other things we had to be proficent at all types of rope work, including rope to wire and this particular version of the eye splice...A BN had to know just about all he could about all things nautical/marine and on occasion still be able to don his treasured blue blazer and help the PBO hold up the bar at the yacht club....

I consider you, and anyone else who feels the term "boat ******" is appropriate for use, to be an ignorant boor. "******" is an ugly word, especially in a white man's mouth, regardless of context. Your not-so-subtle, old-school racism is extremely distasteful.

In RI a dock rat is a wannabe instead of someone who actually got onboard. By the way, I hear boat boy today instead of BN.
All the best,

Cool

I'm still a BN. Ive come up the ranks from swab to capt. As a capt., I still handle ALL the BN work, and for the life of me, I love it. no one else on my crew can handle the position of BN better than me.

The term "******", regardless of its context, is derogatory towards black people. Do not pretend this is not true. If you defend its use, then yes, I'm afraid you are an ignorant person.

I find the term offensive whether used by blacks or whites...and I have left it alone here in the interest of the discussion but the points have been made so let's just leave it be as it is beginning to get out of hand.
