Sailing from East Coast to London

Can anyone help?

I am researching a short story about sailing from the East Coast to London, in your own yacht. I was wondering if there are any folks out there who done this, and whether they have any experiences they could share?

Specifically:

1) What boat did you use
2) What is the best routing & time of year
3) How long does it take
4) What problems did you have on the way?

Any tips or information would be much appreciated, as I know nothing about boats!

Back in my college years I crewed on an Ohlson 38 with six aboard, sailing from Connecticut to Cork, and then up to Dunoon, Scotland and down to Biarritz, France by way of Man and the Scillies. Please email me if that fits your criteria; it''s not London.
