You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Yes, it appears to fail under Firefox and safari... Try Camino.

Thanks again. Thats from top of Diamond Head. Lot of empty ocean. Back to the thread.....we only saw tourist dayboats sailing - no locals, but it was honkin' all week.

Thanks for all the replies, and the reasons do make sense. It would be a long passage just to get there. I'm vacationing on the Big Island for a week starting next Wednesday and I thought it would be fun to get a little sailing in, but almost all the charters are for snorkeling, whale watching and other activities. Too bad South Pac is so far away! That's the kind of place you go and never come back.

Its pretty clear that most of the sailing is off the east coast and Caribbean. Is there much cruising done along the Pacific coast? Is there a Pacific ICW? How do the coastal seas compare west vs. east?
