I recall the old joke about what the F/G sailor says upon hitting a coral reef: "Abandon ship!"

The steel boat sailor: "Kedge off, back up and ready the paint brushes and rubber mallets!"

I would be interested in that CuNi boat reference, as I saw some boat that was made in the '60s of this material online, and they went into some detail as to how the (uncoated) metal wastage was measurable, but very minimal for 40 years afloat. The thing LOOKED a little rough, but apparently was in fine structural shape.

Valiente ... believe the boat is Pretty Penny, yes? ... found the reference, was ASTM A-242 (Corten) not CuNi ... sorry for the confusion ... nonetheless, even using 90-10 I couldn't afford the cost with copper and nickle prices going out of sight ... hope you can have her built someday soon.
