Is there a minimum height requirement for masthead lights. I have a 79 Cheoy Lee ketch (32') and noticed that all the other boats in the marina have their lights quite a bit higher than mine. Just curious. Thanks
You don't state whether your masthead light is actually atop your mast. If you have a short mast, by definition it could be no higher than that. And the ketch is known for its short mast and long booms, because the point is to split the sail area of a similarly sized sloop into smaller, lower parts for ease of handling and a greater flexibility of sail sets in harsh weather.
Are you sure you aren't confusing your steaming light or deck light with your masthead light? The masthead is usually a tricolour and sometimes has a white 360 degree anchor light atop that. The steaming light is white, often around the first set of spreaders, and is usually on the front face of the mainmast.
