Mounting framed pictures

I love sailing, but am terrible at decorating. My wife wants to mount some framed pictures in the salon of our boat. What is the best way to do this?

If the boat is a monohull, use velcro tape on both the cabin bulkhead and the back of the frame, and replace the glass in the frame with plexiglass.

The pictures are unlikely to come off the bulkhead as the velcro is pretty strong, and the plexiglass will protect you and the photo from broken glass in the case the photo does manage to get free or if something hits the photo... which is not all that rare an occurence on a sailboat.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Thanks. I never would have thought of that. I was imagining drilling a billion holes in my boat, and then having the picture end up crooked.

Glad to help... The velcro tape should probably be also screwed into the bulkhead every foot or so, since the adhesive may fail in really hot weather. ...and it comes in black, white, and a light beige off-white color.

Makes re-arranging the photos easy too.

Valiente will become famous soon enough
While on the subject of velcro, I've glued a little tab of the stuff to the back of my old handheld GPS and its mate to a high and dry spot just inside the companionway. It allows me to access it quickly without having it slide about a wet cockpit, and I don't feel obliged to install some sort of overkill teak holder for it (it's a steel bulkhead and affixing wood to it is labour-intensive and is to be avoided). It's also good for affixing the sheath of a deck knife to the (steel) binnacle. If you find you're brushing past it and tearing it off, it's no big deal to reposition elsewhere as you haven't drilled holes to which you feel "committed".

Velcro is so useful aboard that I keep a roll in a locker. The stickiness of the peel and stick stuff can fade in time, so keep a bit of glue and screws handy.

Giu-

I printed that and laminated it, and glued it to the bottom of my boat.. Haven't had any barnacles or growth on the hull since then. But the fishermen complain that they haven't caught anything since I did it... so I'm probably going to have to go back to a regular bottom paint.
