Polars for Beneteau 32S5

Anyone know how I can obtain polars for my Beneteau 32S5? Do the recent posts about benehuntalinas also apply to the First series? I thought this was supposed to be a racer-cruiser! thanks

Polars for Beneteau 32S5

There are people who paint all of the Beneteaus, Hunters, and Catalinas with one wide brush. If you spend any time with these boats you find that there are huge diffences is build quality and sailing ability between different models within a particular manufacturer''s portfolio, when comparing one manufacturer to another.

The First series seem to be better constructed, offer better performance, and include better deck hardware than same vintage Oceanis and ''number series''. Depending upon the confiration (deep lead keel vs shoal cast iron, in mast furling vs ''classic and so on) the 32s5 appears to be a reasonably well constructed reasonably fast coastal racer cruiser.

I don''t know if one was measured for IMS or was measured under the current European measurement rules but you should be able to address an inquiry to US Sailing and see if they have a measurement certificate on file for a 32s5 which they will sell you. It should include polars.

Starck-

I doubt he cares much any more. If he hadn't found the Polars in the past SIX-and-a-HALF years... he probably doesn't need them any more. Please do check the dates on posts before you reply to them. Also, please read the POST in my signature to help you get the most out of your time on sailnet. Welcome to the Asylum.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

:-) Who knows he might still be looking - but yeah you are probably right.
I was quite happy though, it is not easy to get hold of.

guess what...

was searching for a boat to buy and found that I had joined this forum years ago. Well I did buy a used 32S5 and have sailed it a lot. I live in Barbados where we have reasonably strong trades most of the year. Have used Asmara (a 1990 version) since I bought her in 2001, for coastal cruising, local racing and some inter-island ocean passages. It's one nasty beat back up here from the islands and the 32S5 is not really built for the constant smashing to windward, but I do love the boat very much. She has nice lines and sails well. As posted elsewhere, she is a tender boat and I believe I tend to sail her too heeled over. I wish that I could have had the fin keel version, but she came with the steel shoal keel.
Having just completed the Mount Gay regatta here, I was enthused to start looking for something a bit bigger.
Never did find those polars, but I see one of you had posted a link...will try that now.
thanks for the info
Ian
