I agree that there are certain jobs where the owner, given the proper tools, skills, materials and time, is going to do a much better job... but then again, they have to have the proper tools, skills, materials and time. Missing any one of these factors is going to reduce the quality of the work they can do. Not everyone is capable of re-wiring their boat safely. Nor is everybody capable of re-glassing a delaminating deck and replacing the core.
