Go for it, dude! Some of us dream of sailing and others dream of building a boat. Whatever your dream is, just DO it. With your approach and attitude, I'm sure you will get lots of free advice and some of it may even have some value. Ha, ha! Here's my contribution: Think about building a catamaran. Yes, I know that we cat people are the minority and I suspect that building one would involve more time and $$$ than a monohull but the finished product should give you more space and more comfort at sea. OTOH, if you really, really like to heel, stick with a mono. We just love our recently acquired catamaran and I just ask that you consider the possibility of a multhull before you jump into building a mono and wind up kicking yourself for it a few years down the road. Whatever you do, best wishes and don't get caught up in the throes of "analysis paralysis" like so many dreamers do.
PS: Are you a real JAG as your username suggests? If so, we can swap some war stories when we meet "out there". We also plan to spend a lot of time on the ICW - at least during the warm season. Keep us posted and good luck!

Jag came from a car I once had. Cyber from the profession that helped me afford it. Sadly, neither is appropriate any more, but the handle's been with me since the web was in it's infancy so I can't just cast it aside.

Hey Now! I still consider myself multi-challenged and miss the Hobies a lot. However, my current bride does not swim so methought it might be better to get a boat you sit IN and not ON. (And it worked! She loves to sail!)

I'm on a 28' trimaran. Sails flat in all sorts of conditions... drier than most boats its size that I've been on too.

HI What's wrong with sailnet's server,once you log into sailnet it takes 20m min. to finally get to the message boad,I would never order anything from sailnet, seems like they could care less about fixing the problem.This problem has been going on for 6 months

Dave...I think the problem is at your end. No one else has expressed any problems that I can recall for a long time. You might want to PM the site admin detailing the problem and your connectivity provider and your operating system and browser. Perhaps he can help. It takes me about 2 seconds to get on the forum

Same here.. believe the problem is on your end... BTW, if you have ad-blocking software setup, it will probably slow your login quite a bit.

Welcome and follow your dreams....I've entertained the thought of boat building, but quickly summed up my capabilities and will leave that filed under fantasy.
