that was sad to watch, even though it was a powerboat.

My gawd the consipiracy theories that people think of here are so funny! I certainly hope these people wouldn't risk an infant's life to collect on insurance. I'd go with the "'Hon... does the stern seem to be lower than before?' every 15 minutes" concept. Especially if it was a power boater...

V-
Can't get the video to load or run here, no obvious reason why.

Labatt-
The value of a baby today? Not much in many places. About $50k to buy a Chinese one and bring it back to the US, considerably less for many from other soures. Of course you can also RENT one, and if you accidentally had one and figured out what raising it might cost...the value of the risk changes.
Sad state of affairs, but there are all too many people who do the math that way.

tj, being a parent or having children, whether one's own or otherwise, has nothing to do with observing how people all over the planet treat children all over the planet. Infants, children, teen warriors in Africa, much less how they treat other adults.

In many parts of the world life still is cheap. Children are pups, dropped every nine or ten months and expected to have a high attrition rate in many cultures. Literally bought and sold like any other livestock, for similar reasons, and used as payment for debts.

If that is a revelation that shocks you, you've been sheltered in a Western Christian Culture for too long. And you probably haven't been reading or watching the Nooze for the past few years. Take you choice, all in the US, all recently:

Mother drowns two in tub
Mother drives car into lake, drowning kids in back seat
Teenager gives birth at prom, flushes baby down toilet
Young mother abandons baby in field
Not to mention, all the states that now provide formal "dump your baby here, no consequences" shelters at religions buildings, hospitals, and fire departments, in order to prevent so many mothers from literally throwing their baby out in the trash here in the US.

Be horrified, or not. That's got nothing to do with the fact that life is held CHEAP, by many people, in many places. Wanna buy a baby? No problem, there's plenty for sale, no questions asked. That just means, the presence of a baby on that boat, is no indication of anything else--including whether the sinking was the accident from negligent maintainance that it simply appears to be.

What's suspicious? That's the Gold Coast, where rich people buy toys, break them, and then buy new ones. Perfectly normal for when & where it is. The important thing is the wifey didn't get her feet wet.
H.S. I think you may be close to the mark.

Hose came off the raw water pump is my bet. A boat that size is probably got 2 or 2.5 inch pumps It doesn't take long to fill a compartment with a two inch pump running. Those rigs probably don't have watertight compartments either.
good reason why most owners of boats that size higher professional crews.

Honey what does that beeping noise and flashing red light mean ?

sailboat, power boat, do you think the media really cares if they get the facts straight?

The Coast Guard has released high definition photos which resolve most of the "mystery".

These are here: https://www.piersystem.com/go/doc/586/159300/

It definitely WAS a motor vessel, not a sailboat. The press was dead wrong on this (gee, isn't THAT surprising).

The "buoy" which appeared in the video was actually another boat...a sportfish with a "tuna tower".

A couple of other pieces of "news": it's said that the boat had recently undergone repairs to fit a swim platform; and, it may have been a charter vessel.
