What's the worst trip you've ever had?

For me it was a trip from Daytona to just south of Jacksonville. A friend of mine agreed to come along to help me move my boat. We were to motor up the ICW through the night and the next day and sail across lake Jacksonville. Well he crapped out on the night shift, and I wound up motoring all night by myself . We totally miss judged the tides and anchored in the wrong spot. The boat laid clean over on her side . Didn't get much sleep that night either. On top of all this Jacksonville was having record lows for February. It was down to 39 degrees. I'm sure some of you salty dogs from up north would love such a balmy night, but I have no heaters, my sweaters are made of cotton for Christs sake . To cap off this lovely weekend, I couldn't get into the marina I wanted to, and booked at a marina I had never been to before. It was a floating trailer park. They put me at the end of an old pier that was built by the navy, decades ago, for boats far larger then mine. The deck was higher then my spreaders, but I had no choice but to leave my boat. My friend and I, both had to go to work in the morning. It sucked, but it can't be Paradise every time.

That time I dropped acid and read a thread about sharing your faith while cruising. Man, what a bummer.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

So far, coming out of Government Cut at Miami against 8-10 foot seas and dead into the wind, and after an hour and a half to get out to open water, finding it just as bad out there. Rather than go up to the Lake Worth Inlet, I gave up and went in at Port Everglades. It beat the snot out of me and the boat.

I try not to recall bad trips - could trigger a flashback. But, I'd have to say it was the bad LSD some acidhead gave me at Woodstock . . . while Hendrix was on.
