Overhead Power Lines

Today 6/25 a sailboat turned the wrong way up a small creek and hit the overhead power lines. The boat was burned to the water line. Just makes you think that we need to always be aware of where we are and where we are going. There are hazards to look out for.

June 25th, 2007The boater was sailing the intracoastal waterway from Florida to Pennsylvania when, near the Gilmerton Bridge, he made a wrong turn into St. Juliens Creek. The sailboat caught fire and exploded when its mast got tangled in high voltage power lines

Yup... sailboats and overhead powerlines are a bad combination.

Unfamiliar launch sites, especially for the trailer-sailer, should be inspected for power lines. Tree limbs, high ones, should be scoped out as well. Nothing more frustrating than stepping one's mast, only to discover foliage preventing an approach to the ramp. Don't ask how I know this.
