I thought about putting this in "Buying a boat", but that would have skewed the answers. I am curious about how actively most people watch what is up for sale around them, even when a new boat is not in their plans.

I watch boats on eBay and craigslist (for several areas) as well as the local
free ad paper and Boat Trader. I probably would qualify as a "Boat Stalker"!!

I'm actually just the opposite when it comes to looking at boats. I am going to be serious about buying a boat relatively soon, in about 6 months, but for whatever reason that makes me NOT want to look at boats now. About a year ago I was on the broker sites and listing services looking at boats all the time, going out to look at them, talking to brokers about having them surveyed and things. But now that it really is going to happen I've stopped doing that, I haven't looked at a broker site or gone to see boats in about 9 months and I don't plan to look for another 5 or 6 months.

Why ? I guess I'm afraid I'll find something I want! In fact I think I'm so sure I will find something I want that I am reluctant to let myself look, because this decision of when to buy has to be driven by some kind of restraint and logic, and it's just no good for me to go out and find a boat I like and then hope nobody buys it for the next 6 months, it would be a kind of torture. So I'd just rather not look at all. If she's out there for me she'll wait, and if she doesn't wait it was never meant to be.

Well, that sucks all the gut wrenching fun out of it...
After you finally get a boat, definetly don't look anymore. You will certainly run across a better deal than you got!

I love boats, so I am always looking. There are so many different styles and types, its an education. I am happy with what I have, but there will be a "next" boat, but don't tell her that.

In Australia we have a HUGE magazine called "Trade a Boat".
There are thousands of boats for sale.
We call it 'The Book of Dreams'.

Sellers DREAM of getting what they ask,,
Buyers DREAM of getting it for what they offer.

I get it every month just to keep on top of prices and where they are going.
I will be buying a 'new' used boat next year and I am DREAMING of getting it for what I offer.

I think everyone who has a interrest in boats looks all the time.

By the way, have you guys in the States noticed that sailboats are getting up in price and powerboats are coming down?
That is what is happenning here.

Jim.

OH Mate.
Them there is FIGHTING words in the country..

Those "neighbours" to the north of us already have a new name for Australia printed on maps, so I am told, and it is not AUSTRALIA.

But we have no fear..

If they invade us they have to get from the boat to the beach and the Box Jellyfish can do their thing.
Then there are the Shark laying in wait on the water line.
After that come the Crocodiles and if they make the mainland, there is always dengue fever.
Once on dry land they have the deadly snakes and spiders plus the wild pigs.

If they make it to a city they have the protesters and political parties to contend with.
And besides, there is no use them coming here because most of what they will want to loot was made in Indonesia anyway.

So there.

Jim.
