autohelm calibration

Just finished putting in a Raymarine 6001 S-1 autohelm. Everything looked good and ready and when I followed the directions and hit 'auto' and then +10 -10 as directed it spun completely to port or starboard. So I hit standby as directed and attempted to start over. I was going to contact Raymarine but needed all the numbers etc on the unit and its all on the boat. So short of calling via cell or taking forever to e mail 'all' the info they require for asking questions, what can I do to fix this? Anyone experience anything like this?

There are several things that can cause this problem. Without know what all your instruments are and how they are connected, if you have a chart plotter or a computer running navigations sofware it could be most difficult to find the culprit. However, there is one main item that if installed incorrectly, i.e. 180 degrees out would cause the problem and that is your electonic compass that connects to the 6001, or if you don't have one.

I suggest for a $100+ you have a technician do the calibration for your while you watch what is done.
