How fast is your boat?

I recently poasted a thread in the S2 forum about this. I got a couple of replies. I have an S2 8.0B, a 26 foot sloop with high aspect main. I want to know how fast your boat goes. I got mine to 7.2 knots average speed with main and 100% jib, I had following seas ans the wind was almost a steady 20 to 25 knots.

The square formula for the hull is only at 5.2 knots but I regulary sail over that, is that normal with other boats? I'm curious to hear what others say. I would also like to know the PHRF ratings of other sailboats as well.

You should sell that boat. My wife hit almost fifteen knots on my little Cal 21 the other day. The fact that it was on the trailer, and she was backing out of our driveway, made it no less exciting. (g)

I've done 50 knots with my boat... that was her maiden voyage on a trailer. On the water, I've only managed to get up to 15 knots under sail. :)

BTW, the PHRF rating for the boat I have is supposed to be around 99... but I'm not sure of that, since it hasn't been confirmed AFAIK yet.

WOW!!! What is the PHRF rating for that:D :D
Who said women cant sail! How fast does she do going into the driveway?
Seriously: How fast do you do in the Cal 21? My cal 25 did 7.6 knots.

I've had mine once at 19 knots (only once), and several times at steady (more than 2 minutes) at 17 kts.

On a good day we sail often at between 9 an 12 kts speed over water, not SOG.

She'll flirt with 6 knots to windward, she's a shade under 17' lwl. The nice thing about her is; with her sail area and displacement it doesn't take much wind to get her up there.

Hey Portagee!
Ya gotta tune the boiler on one program and sail the boat on the other!
