60' mast

We are currently building a 45' sailboat and my husband asked me to find out the diameter of a 60' extruded aluminum mast on Internet. But it is harder than I thought. Anybody know where I could find this out?

Yes.

Go to www.sparcraft.com

In the mast section you can have all the answers you want.

For a boat like you describe, select a F 460 profile, if you will race that has a section of 116mm X 215mm, a thickness of 4,1 mm and the slider is 16mm. See this mast in the Performance section

If you cruise, a good option would be NG51, with 125mm X 190mm, a thickness of 3,5mm and a slider of 19mm. See this mast at the Ocean section.

Also, ask your husband if he wants a rectangular or oval section, and if its for a cruise or race boat?

Does he want a fractional or mast top rig?

It is definitely for a cruise boat and I am pretty sure he wants an oval section. There is no rush but I will get back to you tomorrow with the other information as he is away until tomorrow, (unless he calls again tonight). I appreciate your help. Thank you.

And mean lean machines, too!!

Mine's a Sparcraft. To me one of the best, price/quality/service/performance/design/engineering. Recommend.

Other brands are good but too expensive for what they are.

Nobody can recommend a mast without knowing something about the boat and sailplan. A more stable boat needs a stronger mast and a taller mast needs more spreaders then a shorter mast on the same boat. A lot of variables come into play and someone has to design an appropriate mast to fit the boat.

Most plans include enough information to have a mast built. Your plans are missing this information? Who is the designer?
Good luck and all the best,

Giu-

How many halyards do you have running internally to your mast... I see four on just the starboard side alone.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
