Met my new neighbor
as some of you may or may not know, we recently moved (renting as we just sold our house) anyway the guy across the street and i have been hollering back and forth at each other; hey how are ya? wanna beer etc. anyway yesterday ha asked if i wanted a beer and i said hell yeah. as i entered his garage i noticed that he was fabricating a roof mount car rack for his kayak. i told him about my interests of sailing and yada yada. he said have a seat and let me tell you a story as he handed me a cold one. turns out that this guy is a friend of Tristan Jones.
I've never heard of the man before but he had every book this guy has written personally autographed. I just stared in awe as he told me some of his tales. i finished my beer and said thank you for the stories and i was leaving, he said "i wanna sail with you sometime". i said anytime you like and then went home. I just thought it was very interesting this guy lives across the street with all his sailing knowledge. I'll keep you posted after we go for the daily cruise!
Happy sails!

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Tristan was a pretty interesting character and his tales make great reading. There has been some scuttlebutt that a lot of it was fabricated and that a few of his supposed voyages never happened. He died a few years back, in poverty, in the Phillipines I think it was. He lost a leg a few years earlier.
Correction -He died in Thailand and in fact had both legs amputated.

Umm... one other point I'd make...just because he was friends with Tristan Jones, doesn't necessarily translate into him knowing anything about sailing. He could be a non-sailor.
