The Thistle

My Grandfather, my father and myself just restored a thistle. It has a fiberglass hull whitch is in great condition and 700 dollars worth of mahogany (Sorry spelling) It is my grandfathers boat and he is 80 years old and ready to sell it. The Thistle is a well known boat but for some reason we can not find a market for it. We live in redding California which is a couple hours north of san francisco when i figure out how to put pictures on these threads ill put some on. I suppose if i where to drive down to san francisco it would sell but i dont know if id be willing to do that. Any suggestions?

You might try putting it on Craigslist down there and see if someone will drive up. Also, go here:

http://www.thistleclass.com/

and under "Used Boats" on left, select "Place an Ad". That is specifically for Thistles. I would suggest browsing other used boat ads on that site before describing and pricing yours.

Oh yeah, don't post back here with a picture and price; that violates forum rules (there is a place to list boats here, but not in the discussion area). I meant to mention that in my earlier post. I think you are okay just asking for advice...

Your Thistle

I agree with everyone who's posted that you just haven't reached interested parties yet. The Thistle class web site is a solid bet. Don't let it slip away for less than it's worth to someone who doesn't know what they're getting. Thistles are wonderful boats, actively day sailed and raced, and especially since you've put some love into restoring it, there's certainly a buyer out there who'll be thrilled to get his hands on it.

Thistle

Do you still own the thistle?

If yes:
What is the Sail #
What condition is the trailer in?
What equipment would come with the boat?
What is your asking price?

Thanks,

Mike poltorak
