Remember to count heads!

We had a new crew subbing on a race, probably about 8 of use on a 45'er and as usual everyone is arriving late at the dock. So the new crew "Fred" goes back to his car for his binocs, without telling the helm.

"Where's Fred?" Who? "The new guy, Fred, isn't he down below?" The next boat to come out the channel pursuing us, Fred in the pulpit waving frantically, HEY! HEY!

From this we know to count heads. And we spent the rest of the summer asking "Where's Fred?", even knowing he wasn't on the boat.

in reference to healing/sheeting for the smaller boats or captains not yet quite comfortable with their boat cuz i know i was ready to abandon ship first time i experienced heeling "when in doubt, let it out"
