Please Help, "Gold Island" sailboat??

Hey all,

I run a non-profit sailing organization for young adults.

We may be getting a "gold island 38" as a donation. Does anybody know anything about this make of boat???? I can't find anything at all!!!

Dan Spurr's book "Heart of Glass" does not mention it either, although he does briefly mention a Gold Coast company made in the USVI of all places.

Once again I'll plug Spurr's book as great reading for anyone interested in the history of fiberglass boats.

Haha, yeah that was the only thing I could find too!

I saw the boat yesterday and it is definitely NOT a trawler. She is a double ended cutter (probably sails like a trawler though). Seems to have been built in the early 70's, and very "heavy weather".

I am trying to attach a photo but my uploads keep failing.

I just spent a little search time and it appears they do exist, but I couldn't find any real info. The only real relevant things were one that sold in Florida four years ago for 40K, (Google "Gold Island Cutter") and a reoccurring association to Hans Christian boats. Let's see that picture!
