Sailing Logs What's in yours?

So with my first week of keel boat sailing behind me, I think it is a good idea if I start keeping a log. Just to tract my experiences and what types of boats I will be sailing. (since I will be using the sailing center's boats)

What information do you record in your sailing log? is your log more ship orientated or sailor?

I try to use my log every time I go out. From experience, it is better to put in as much detail as possible.....it makes for great winter time reading and dreaming if nothing else.

Barometric pressure readings are also good to take periodically. The trend of the air pressure can give you warning of incoming bad weather.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

lol, quite true SD, but lake mead has as much shoreline as calif. to sail from lake mead marina to temple bar as a 35 mile leg, not bad for a lake. plus this lake made me a good sailor, the wind changes direction more in a day than i change underwear in a month. the winds can come up on you at 65mph gusts, and i've been knocked down a few times. and old salt told me long ago "if you can learn to sail this lake, you can sail any ocean". since then i've singlehanded the entire calif coast to baja. and miami to Bahamas. it really is a great sailing lake, very unforgivable, changing conditions. plus it is one BIG @$$ LAKE

Lake Mead is a bit on the large side... The one major difference is that you have no tides... and tides can royally screw the lake sailor when they venture out on the salty ocean for the first time...especially in coastal areas with races and rips...like Woods Hole... and such.
