Chesapeake Schooner Race

I've been invited to crew in the upcoming Chesapeake Schooner Race in October, from Baltimore to Portsmouth, VA. Anyone ever raced in this one? Seems like a great time to be had.

TS -- Way cool! Have never crewed in that race but would love to sometime. It has been known to have some heavy winds and those boats either love it or hate it depending on how well they go to weather. Some real rivalries have developed down through the years, too.

Several times I have gone out into the Patapsco to take photos of the boats the morning of the race as they have a parade of sail down to the starting line at the bay bridge. Definitely go for it.

Which boat might I ask? Just curious.

I did it on the schooner Liberty Clipper, back in 99. It was a lot of fun. They usally have a big party the night before. Crew gets in free, or did. Then there is a BBQ and breakfast the day after the race where they anouce the winners. If you get to go, there is a clam bake over in port charles that is usualy free for the crew members as well. Have fun.
