Starbuck1962 is on a distinguished road
Child's PFD

I will be sailing with my 8 yr old son (50 lbs) from Long Beach, CA to Catalina Island on a Catalina 36 and it occurs to me that the life vest he wears for inland sailing might not be enough. Any recommendations on what is best?
(I wear an auto inflatable).

Mustang Li'l Legends, Type II.

Alternatively, there is a hybrid jacket available with a combination of closed cell foam and co2 inflated bladder.

I'd second the Mustang Li'l Legends as well. They're fairly comfortable and more likely to turn the kid over face up in a COB situation. Did fairly well in PS magazine tests as well IIRC.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

tenuki will become famous soon enough
mustang li'l legends type II. They are actually well enough constructed that you may be able to pick em out of the water by the handle on the back of the neck piece if you remember to snap the leg strap.
