Re: offshore passage opportunites

I thought I would retouch this old thread. I searched sailnet on this subject and found many references but very few actual experiences.
Anyone have any personal or second person experiences as captain or crew?

SVAuspicious will become famous soon enough
Re: offshore passage opportunites

I'm an OPO pro skipper. I crewed with them for a few years before becoming a skipper. I've used OPO crew on deliveries and on my own boat. In my opinion and experience better than most crewing services.

Thanks
I was thinking about signing up but was concerned because it seemed pretty expensive.
I notice that their are no crewing opportunities at this time. Do you think it would be better to wait a couple months to sign on?

I'm not sure why everything stops at 11/27/12

Re: offshore passage opportunites

David,
Met Hank Schmidt, founder of OPO a few times a number of years ago when he was 1st getting OPO under way. He is local out of
Huntington. Seemed serious and careful about both crew and boats
he put together. Believe he still organizes repositioning a fleet of
large Swans from Newport to the caribbean every spring and fall.
As I remember it OPO crew members would have better crewing
opportunities as their OPO resume grew.
Call/contact Hank, as I remember he is/was a delivery captain,
and was happy to spend time and explain things.
Best,
Hugo

Re: offshore passage opportunites

Seem to remember that those repositionings were looking for
"paying crew" with some opo members filling in balance of
open slots. Was a long time ago.
