NYC liveaboard questions
The admiral has been offered a very nice job in Jersey City, in one of the office buildings along the river and I am wondering if there are places to liveaboard that would be a reasonable commute (public transit or car if need be)to this area. The boat to be accomodated is 40' with 5'6" draft. If there are marinas that do allow liveaboards, are they likely to have space avaiable? I don't know the New York City area that well but it would seem that the choices would be in New Jersey south of the city or up the Hudson where there is a commuter train to the city.

Thanks for any ideas.

Liberty Landing Marina does but it is pricey. We call it stayaboard. No wakes, good facilities but management sucks. Good only knows what they will be like when their new building gets built by spring. But the sailors and boaters there are a great group especially around L and M dock. :D

I thought they had a waiting list?

This time of year, there is generally no wait list. Because of the pricey slip fees ($190 per foot) the wait list is short if any. At least that is what I am hearing.

Killarney - I'm on G dock at Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City and Melrna is speaking truth. Having been at other Hudson locations including Newport in Jersey City, the lack of wake and harbor wash in the LLC creek is seriously valuable - especially if you're living aboard. We usually spend a couple of nights per week aboard, but don't "stayaboard" though we've had friends on C dock who did it for 2 years and thought it was fine - they did "shrink wrap" their boat to provide cosmetic protection and some insulation during the winter. And - as noted - the managment is inattentive at best and sucking at worst.
