Agreed that providing some additional profile info pertaining to member's boats adds some "credibility", but many are not boat owners and are here to learn and do research.
As far as personal data goes, we're all vulnerable to receiving aggressive reactions to our replies and comments. Not everyone sees the humor in what is at times, intended as sarcasm. Therefore I think that most frequent forum contributors, maintain an incognito profile as a means of defending their true indentity, for fear of "owning" their words.
In reality, we're all vulnerable to identity exposure, regardless of our stealth attempts - particularly, through USCG documentation and other means.
