Sitting on Google earth, sailing around the world picking out remote islands, zooming in on them, looking them up on the internet and imaging sailing there. . . .
I did spend three winters living on yachtworld, looking for a boat .... already knew where I wanted to go.

As a child, spun my globe of mother earth - learning names of distant places, in time - ultimately understanding cultural and distance disparities between me and them, eventually visiting a few prior to and during college.
Married my dreamgirl and spent the next few years exploring a few of these countries, and just about every island in the Caribbean - albeit, via air and ground travel.
Wasn't until after owning four boats, a dream regerminated in my spirit to never stop exploring - leading to the search for a suitable cruising boat.
The loving wife concured - partially, eventually convinced of my choice of the perfect vessel, only to become fearful of heeling and big winds.
So much for my dream. Chapter deux currently in transition.

We do that ALL the time. At work, when someone is yelling at me or being stupid, I close my eyes and think, "Six more years. Six more years..." and I am good.
I find google earth very interesting but lots of areas are very low res.
I'm sure that high res images exist of the entire planet by now. So why can't we see them?

i think google earth is open source. if you can get the hi-res images im pretty sure you can make them work in google earth. gettting the images is the trick, of course...
Count me as a super wierdo! Google Earth is one of the most addictive sites I've ever found. Just before our last trip to Europe I used it to make very extensive maps. It was a life saver in Rome. I had a picture of our hotels there and in CZ. I would never have found the Hofbrauhaus in Munich without it. Street maps don't work so well there. You need pictures of buildings! I still can't find that girl on Pirates boat yet though . . . still looking.
