marine diesel/diesel
is there any reason why diesel used in auto cannot be used in sailboat diesel engine

Its actually the other way around. The automotive diesel has low sulfur for emission control and is perfectly suitable for marine use, however, the marine diesel (red in color) is unlawful to use on the road. Besides, the marine (red) stuff is usually cheaper, since it has not been taxed as a "Road Fuel".

Thanks for info. If I compare diesel from gas station price with marina price the marina is much more expensive!

I met a guy who had converted a diesel from a vw rabbit for marine use. I think he said he had bought the kit from a company in canada?

The Canadian version is called a Pathfinder, but essentially it is the same as the Hawker-Sidley marinized 1500cc VW mounted in my 1984 Nicholson 35.
