Hull # and year boat was made?

Sorry don't know where to post this but I had a quick question.

I have a new to me boat that I'm going to get titled but don't know the year of the boat. The hull number I have has 84 at the end of it, which I'm assuming means that its a 1984 boat. This definitely matches when they built these boats. Is it safe to say its an 84 or should I be looking somewhere else? Thanks.

Short answer: yes, an 84.

Longer answer: Google boat hull id number

Post the entire sequence of the hull ID. Then we can decipher it.

What make?

Yes, the last two digits are the year of manufacture. Boats produced before August 1, 1984 had the mfr month to the left of the year. After that date a letter code was used to denote month of mfr.

Go HERE for additional help in deciphering the HIN.

The last two digits of the HIN, in your case "84", are the Model Year of the boat. This may or may not be the year it was built. You have to look at the two digits that precede the model year to determine the month/year of build. The fourth-to-last- digit will be a letter, A-L, which corresponds to the month (e.g. A=January, B=February, etc). The third-to-last digit is the build year, represented by a single number. For example, this digit on your boat's HIN is probably either a 3 or a 4, and by the model year we know the build year to be either 1983 or 1984. So, let's say the last four digits of your HIN are "G384", then your boat is a model year 1984 built in July 1983.

Does that make sense?

EDIT: I forgot your boat falls right in the transition year so True Blue's caveat applies.
