I might have to get it,
would be a nice addition to any sailors library.

Can you find me an original addition of Slocum's Sailing Alone Around the World
Thanks sailortjk...that's a great price on a 1938, but I have my heart set on the first edition 1807...I know I'm dreaming. Try Abebooks.com for the Slocum's...

duh, I just looked at your first link... 425.00 is probably not bad depending on the condition of the book, depends on how bad you want it... it mystifies some people as to why someone would be willing to spend that amount on a book...I can't explain it well when asked myself.

Giu, i noticed you were out of stock on these 12 volt companions. how long for back order? I have plenty of 12v power and I will be making a long singlehanded passage (so to speak) do you have a demo model maybe discounted? I really need one of these as i do not have an autopilot

My recommendation - a book on why you shouldn't build your own sailboat. My five rules to my son if he ever decides to acquire his own sailboat.

1) Don't buy a cement boat.

2) Don't buy an aluminum boat.

3) Don't buy a steel boat.

4) Don't buy a wooden boat.

5) Don't build your own boat.

Now before I get flamed, I know each category I have ruled out has some decent boats with in it but aluminum is too ugly, wood and steel are high maintance, and cement boats can be real dogs. And I told him the divorce rate is very high amongst build your owns and it costs more - contrary to popular opinion of those who don't know.

Rsn...we could be friends...you seem to have a rare feature nowadays...comon sense....lets be friends shall we??

You may call me Portagee, Alex or Giu, BUT NEVER GUI....OK??

You may also offend my boat by calling it a Catalina, Hunter, Benetau or anything else you should see fit, but never mention my loss of hair or my height

I had a dream, I was sailing, I was happy, I was even smiling. Then I looked down and saw that I was on a multi-hull and woke up suddenly in a cold sweat.

Becca,
Please ignore all the baloney from the noisy rabble (unfortunately the moderators here are either off sailing, writing books or sleeping and without adult supervision the kids get unruly). I think your sensible question deserves a sensible answer and one book I have always enjoyed is http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/cus...ndex=0#gallery. Ropework and knots are an important aspect of sailing and marine lore, and a book like this allows a newcomer to develop skills that can easily be put to work in a practical manner, like below.
