USCG Rescue
This video shows a very competent and professional Rescue. Seeing this is very reassuring.

"Bravo Zulu" to the Coast Guard helio crew, professional all the way.

Those two souls owe them all, especially the rescue swimmer, dinner and a couple of rums.

That was an amazing video.
Just like they drew it up.

Very well done... looks like communication is key. I wonder why they ended up in the water... i got the impression they were already in the water when the USCG arrived. Knockdown maybe? It says they "jumped" though so....

It's much more difficult to recover a person from the back of a boat, especially a sailboat. The helo crew will usually tell the victim to enter the water. And sometimes, after many hours of seascikness and thinking about death and struggleing to keep the boat afloat the crew will leap from the vessel as soon as they hear the rotors approaching. Then the aircrew has to keep track of several drifting bodies while the swimmer puts them in the basket one at a time.

The rescue swimmers train here. They run by my office in the morning. Kevin Costner did not even come close to capturing how cool those guys are.

Another "Bravo Zulu" to the USCG from the Wet West Coast of Canada. Some of the rescues in Southern Coastal BC waters is carried out by USCG, just as some North Washington Coastal waters rescues are carried out by Canadian Search and Rescue.

I don't know if the Canadian Search and Rescue Choppers are still in Boston, this is a story in 2005, but two Choppers were being based out of Boston, while American Search and Rescue were aiding in the war effort.

Here is the chopper the Canadian Forces uses for rescue:
