Helping get 'Kate' ready for launch

This past weekend I got to spend some time with Phil Walwyn, owner of 'Kate' a Twelve Meter Int'l Yacht Racing Union boat (http://www.1906-twelvemetre.com/). She's a beautiful boat - hand built here on St. Kitts, and she should've splashed into the Caribbean again today (I missed the launch unfortunately), in preparation for the Golden Rock Regatta starting in St. Maarten next week. I was just out there to spend some time in the sun on a beautiful morning, learn a little bit about rigging a gaff rig, and occasionally help out. Pics below:

Moving in the travelift.

Setting down on temporary stands

Removing the lift straps.

Rigging up the main.

Back in the travelift (facing the other way) - in preparation for launch.

Pretty boat. Love to see some photos of her in her natural environs.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I was thinking......OUCH.....note to self, do not think, pulls brain muscles........before. As the website noted, she ie Kate was on the front cover of the july issue of woodenboat! She is a beauty! Fell in love with 12M boats watching them in the 70's racing in the AC!

Haven't been able to see her in the water yet up close and personal. I'm leaving the island in mid-Dec, so I'm hoping to get a call to help sail it around sometime before that - otherwise I may be left to drooling with the rest of you .

I'm not too sorry I missed the launch though - from what I heard last year was not a pretty sight. She doesn't have a motor, so they had to pull her out of the U (which is composed entirely of boulders) - while trying to keep her off any of the submerged boulders the crane may have missed. They weren't able to launch Sunday as they were still digging out a channel for her.
