The Weather Channel

You know things are bad in the media when you can't even trust the Weather Channel to give you the truth.

The other night, I was channel surfing and happened to come across a show on the Weather Channel called 'Epic Conditions'. It caught my eye because the subject was 'Sailing on the Chesapeake Bay'. The narrative was somewhat sensationalist ( as you might expect with a show like this ), but the footage they used was just plain wrong. No doubt, some of the video was from the Chesapeake Bay, but they also co-mingled clips from the Volvo Ocean race while the boats were in the someplace like the southern ocean. The implication was clear that those shots were from the bay.

I've spent a lot of time on the bay and I can tell you we don't get 30 foot waves. It might seem trivial, but doesn't it make you wonder what else the media shows us that isn't true?

Just food for thought.

Ever since the Weather channel went political, in pursuit of ad revenue via ratings, you get the usual claptrap about global warming, glacial retreat, and aquatically challenged polar bears. It's now an oxymoron to expect to get the weather forecast on the weather forecast channel. (I'm sure there's a Canadian somewhere to blame for this turn of events!) (g)
