Making you want to put a pistol in your mouth

On another thread I discovered it was possible for wasps to take out an auxiliary, and that got me thinking. I've been sucking my thumb a lot lately, and I was wondering what other kinds of horror stories are out there; not a simple "what went wrong", but a totally implausible, I can't believe it, God hates me, why did I buy this @#%& boat kind of thing.

A wasp is hard to beat but I'll bet there's other examples. In my case a rope too old and stiff to flake properly caused almost 15 grand damage to my boat and made us homeless for 6 weeks, but I'll bet that's almost banal.

Geeze Hoff, you trying to rent trouble????

How about "What went right when it had no Earthly reason to?"

I have one of those .......

I was using a 1960 Chris-Craft cabin cruiser with it's original 1960 Chevy 283 engine for Urchin fishing. We were coming back in one afternoon in less than favorable conditions, when !!BANG!!

We open the engine cover, and we'd lost a journal bearing and put a piston rod right through the side of the engine. It took out 5" of the lower portion of the engine block and 1/3 of the oil pan. In 10 seconds I lost all the oil into the bilge, and all the cooling water was shooting out of the side into the bilge.

I pushed the throttle to the boards and believe it or not, white knuckled it 8 NM back to the town pier; Almost 3 hours !!!!!

No Oil, No Coolant, 3000k on the tack, 2 3/4 hours

NO the engine never started again after I shut it down; but I shut it down!

Poseidon Bless the Syntec Oil Company!

A wasp is a bee that doesn't make honey.

... or as in my post (on clogging my antisiphon loop vent line) that he was referring - to use mud to make a MUD nest. That's why I referred to them as 'mud daubers'. One year when I left a reef tucked into my main for a month or so they made a mud nest in the folds of my mainsail. My wife grossed out when I shook out the reef and dried mud and wasp grubs (immature little wasps) fell all over the deck.

..... and now for a reply to the original post... When trying to winterize my Panda Fischer generator a few weeks ago a fitting vibrated off the raw water pump assembly. I managed to get a replacement cobbled up at a local hydraulics outlet that has been great to me on other projects and I attempted to re-install the pump Friday afternoon. Well..... that assembly is a real bear to put on because the belt that runs it is not easily adjustable. So.... with all the awkward brute force used I managed to break off the other pipe from the assembly. So... I head off to the same place to get another fix and halfway home (of the 100 miles) my 3 month old new car overheats loses power and dies. I figured a hose but I found out today that it looks like a rock hit the radiator, fried the engine, and it will Not be handled as a warranty issue but maybe even an accident by my insurance company $$$$$$.... so while not suicidal certainly badly bent lately......
