Smile Heloo I am happy

I am happy because my dad is coming home.

And he says I can have a new boat next year.

YES!!!

And I can have a Mclaughlin

And now we don't have regattas from last weekend.

and tomorrow I go to school and vist the planetário in Lisbon. and the museu da marinha.

and they don't have Optimists in the museu da marinha, so my dad says I can give mine to the museu for the other kids to see.

You've worked hard and made your father proud...and deserve a new Opti.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I hate to tell you this, but your dad has a surprise for you. The "gift" of your new opti...Well he is bringing you a small hatchet and some chisels. You get to go into the woods, find the right log and then spend three weeks hacking and hollowing out the hull (while existing on nuts, berries and whatever you can forage in the forest. I understand that roasted tourist tastes quite nice).
Your dad thinks it will be a good right-of-passage for you becoming a Man.

Good luck!

Sasha-

That was very mean of you... that was supposed to be a surprise... the hatchet is more than Fred really deserves...I thought Giu was going to have him make a stone hatchet to do the work with.

Merry Christmas Fred!

I'm glad you enjoy school! Stay there and study hard so you don't turn out like Sasha and Dog! You don't want to be them . . . no way!!!

Merry Christmas!

He's already one step ahead of you!! ehehehehehehe

I spent 7 months in Brazil when I was about 8...I spoke fluent Portugeuse for a while...but like Italian, german and even my native born Russian, it has atrophied through lack of use. I now find I can go from understanding one word in ten...to every other word in about 30 minutes of listening...but I still sound like a slow moron when I try speaking it. Oh well.

Sasha

And I was not being mean...If I offered my son a log and some chisels he would be all over it with a huge grin on his face!

Hi Fred

Good luck with your new boat in your next season of racing. I'm pretty sure that your Dad is as happy to be going home as you are to see him again!

Just to show that you are never too young to have your first boat, here's our new grandaughter in her first boat!
