The sails look like works of art.

from the book,
....The largest lines were made of 4inch diameter manila rope as thick as a grown mans forearm. The sails were specially woven multi-ply cotton weighing roughly 4 tons

I have a book, Herreshoff Sailboats by Gregory O. Jones. He goes through the family hstory and details the golden years of Nat and Francis. Many beautiful photos like the above. Even the tenders they designed are graceful.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
