(posted by Dad from an MSN comunication with Fred today, after he returned from sailing).

Fred says:"Ola Papa"

Hello dad

Fred says: "hoje ganhei 1 corrida e rasguei a vela outra vez"

Today I won 1 but riped the sail again

Alex says: "Entăo? o que aconteceu?"

What hapened?

Fred says: "O cabo que prende o mastro nao deixa rodar o mastro, e a vela rasgou no bordo"

The line holding the mast did not allow the mast to rotate, and on the gybe it tore the sail

Alex says:"năo faz mal querido, mandamos reparar, ok?"

No problem dear son, we'll get it fixed, ok?

Fred says: "sim, sim, sim"

yes yes yes

Alex says: "o papa ja falou com o senhor dos Maclaughlin"

Dad has spoken to the MAclaughlin guy

Fred says: " JÁ???????? yuuuupiiiiiiiiiiiii"

realy????? YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Alex Says:"sim, podes escolher a cor o papa manda e tu escolhes, e também querem falar contigo para saber mais coisas onde te sentas, o teu peso e isso, ok?"

Yes, you can chose the colour plan, I am sending now some photos he sent me to give you an idea of how thye can paint them, they also want to talk to you about your weight and how you sail, ok?

Fred says: "sim, sim, manda manda"

yes yes yes , send send

Alex says:" Eles văo mandar um desenho para nós para tu pintares com as cores que queres, para ser teu casco"

"They will be sending a blank drwaing of the boat to us, so you can colour it to your liking with coloured pens, then they will paint it as you draw, it will be YOUR hull"

Fred says: "ena pa.....so espero que năo se risque, obrigado papa"

OHHHH BOY!!! I hope it doesn't get scratched

I then sent the photos you see here

Giulietta said he was dancing and laughing and runing around the table!!!

These are the photos he received. Pretty impressive, hi tech applied to IOD design boats for kids...kids today are sooo lucky...

Here is his message to sailnet:

Hello,

and I saw the Optimist, you like it? I like it, and Luis likes it, and I am happy, bye bye I go dinner now.

And I like blue, and I don't like the green, but I like the blue and the white, but I want portugese flag and I like stars in the paint.

Tenuki, I AM the lucky man, believe me...he deserves every single star on his new paint scheme, believe me.

I thank God for Fred, he is trully a wonderfull boy, he had excellent grades, is doing very well in school, helps my wife when I am away, helps my nephews, younger then him with their homeworks, he is really a great boy.

Best, he never ever asked for anything expensive or crazy, he is ver wise..Thank God.

When he has good grades, we allways take him to a Toys R Us and let hin choose anytghing he wants...he allways comes home with someyhing that cost $10 or $20, that's it...no big expensive things, you know...

Val and Tom met him, ask them how quiet and wise he si..really. They were amazed how he was on a boat with 4 adults and never complaint, bothered us or anoyed us..

Alex may seem overly proud of his boy, but it's true: Fred is a very impressive young man. I wouldn't offer to let him helm my boat (a much heavier boat than what he is used to), if I didn't think he had excellent instincts and skills.

Alex can wait for his turn.......besides, he will be busy fixing our head!

I've always been a "Metalflake" man myself...and preferrably blue! I like the stars they incrporate into the color as well. Cool

Fred,

I'm glad you chose the McLaughlin! They are our favorite Opti. Please send us a photo when it arrives so we can see what color you chose. Also, did you get the clear (see-through) transom? Congratulations!

That's great Giu... I didn't realize that McLaughlin had such personalized service. I think Fred will be very happy with his new Opti.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
