WARNING -- Scam

Some of us have been steered to photobucket.com as a convenient place to upload graphics for our posts to these forums.

I did this and got scammed. When your registration is accepted it is very easy to follow their suggestion to enter your cell number (see the screen shot below). When you do this you will start to receive "premium text messages" which your cell provider will bill you for at the rate of $9.99 per message.

DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR CELL NUMBER.

I would go further and not have anything to do with a site that associates itself with such scam.

BOYCOTT photobucket.com !!

I don't give my 655 341 23 45 cell number to anyone.

PS..do you know how many photos of me they have there??

It would take me years to put them elsewhere...

10,000 and 1 scams out there ridulas really makes ya afraid to turn the dang pc on this is what we've come to as a spieces sad but I'd rather be a seagull

I have to say - why did you give them your cell number? When signing up for _anything_ online - only give them information you want them to have. They have no need for your number, and thus shouldn't have it.

Besides - looking at that screenshot it is pretty clear that it is a crappy advertisement with nothing to do with photobucket. You don't click on pop-ups do you?

I don't mean to harsh but you should have sirens going off immediately if are ever told you could "win" something online - especially if it asks for _any_ type of information about you.

If you really are that upset with photobucket then send them an e-mail explaining how you feel their acceptance of a scammish advertisement upset you.

They pulled that on me when I signed up. You had to answer a text to verify the moble before you could creat an account. It was kinda shitty. But then again, everyone should know nothing, and I mean nothing, is free on the web. Later I went ahead and paid for an account upgrade, 1 yr sub. for I think around $9. The site does come in handy for chunking pics on the boards.

I got one of those premium text message things one time. I can only assume it was when I was trying to buy a ring tone. Verizon did take it off but I think the cell companies make too much money off it to really put a stop to it.

There are plenty of free image hosting sites that don't want anything more than an e-mail address to create an account. I have posted as many pix as anyone on many different forums and have never paid a cent. The one I like best is Fotolode.com. The only contact I have ever had from them is the occasional notice that the site or service is being upgraded.

Well, OK, there was the time they canceled my account because I had uploaded some album artwork that they thought might be pornographic. But once I explained what they were looking at, it was all good and I was reinstated.
