Problem: I need to post the following, but I haven't contributed 1o posts yet. this will make 4
****
I know I am opening a can of worms, but the situation looks serious.

I've got my 1976 Paceship PY26 in town for some deck work. I knew I had some hull/keel joint work, but now I am wondering if I don't need to do something more.
I can't post a pic because I don't have neough posts yet - Argh!

You can see where the ice has formed from water coming out.
The keel is cast iron, 2,200lbs. I was going to dig out the cracked joint material which was placed there by the previous owner and replace with a sealer like Sikaflex. Now I am wondering if i need to drop the keel enough to clean out and rebed and then change bolts - although they look good from the topside.

My question is when is it time to drop the keel instead of leave well enough alone?

SailingRandy,

Just a suggestion, but I think you would get a much better response to your question if you started a new thread and posted it in the Gear and Maintenance forum. We may be able to figure out a way to see your photos, but I fear no one will notice your post where it's appended here. Also, you're getting closer to the 10 post requirement so every new post will help. Good luck and welcome aboard.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Allow me to introduce myself....

Greetings all!
Just a short note to introduce myself (and get a post or two under my belt w/o starting a new thread)
I've been lurking here for about a month or so and have been impressed and entertained with this community, such a wealth of knowledge and wit (mostly ). I grew up on Ft Myers Beach and sailed often with my family, first on a 24' seafarer daysailer, then on 29' coastal cruiser, mostly weekend trips with several jaunts to the Keys, Cuba and the Bahamas. In my twenties I moved around alot and had a plethora of different jobs living in NYC, Huntungton Bch, CA, Ewa,HI, Sydney,Aus ,Phuket, Thailand and a few places in between. In my thirties i settled down a bit. I got my 200T Masters license and towed parasails and did fishing charters back here in SW FL. I also am a general contractor and the current state of that profession is what led me to you fine folks. I got THE BUG again! Went sailing wi th a couple friends this year down to the Keys a couple times and I haven't been able to get it off my mind! I started lurking around here and other forums, pestering my friends about the next sail, and even found myself cruising the local marinas just to get a fix!!
Anyway, to make my short introduction longer, I realized the single missing element in my fortuitous travels was that I was not SAILING! NEW PLAN! I'm currently shopping around for a liveaboard blue water cruiser, giving myself a year or two to tie up loose ends and get provisioned and jumping in head first. In the mean time, i'm reading voraciously and checking into Sailnet and sailing every chance I get to hone my skills. I can't wait to see y'all out there!
Peace,
Kodad

as you requested, max-on: there's " TIKI " during the short haul for the survey. posted some other pics in the gallery. hopefully will get someone to take pics of Tiki under sail from another vessel this season.

only the barnegat bay with the sabre, purchased it late last season. would like to adventure further than the bay this year.
also have a hobie16, sailed @ round valley, spruce run, barnegat bay & cheasapeake bay.
