And now...something different...(from sailing)

This year, we have decided to stay away for the New Years eve.

We had promised Fred to take him to one of the most beautifull places on Earth, which happens to be here in portugal, its also far from the Ocean, for a change.

We're spending 5 days in a 12th Century Monastery, called Santa Maria do Bouro, see here, that was converted into a really nice POUSADAS see here.



From there, we will be in the heart of the Geres Mountains...absolutely wonderfull place where time stopped, there is no electricity, no cell phones, nothing..there are houses made of stone wolves, deer etc.. its a world patrimony, and we wiill be there for 5 days.



Its a bit different from sailing I know, but its one of those things one can only do in Europe...to sleep in a 800 YO bed room...and because you, my dear American friends are so far away from all this, I share it with you.

My wife and I are going to Wisconsin for New Years Eve.
Not nearly as romantic as Santa Maria do Bouro, but it will be fun.
We will be spending time with the Cheese Heads. In fact, we are having dinner at Vince Lombardi's Steak House. One of the best places for a steak anywhere in the US.

Won"t you be concerned about going into sailing/water withdrawal ? DTs of deserts and dust storms? Did you take a little hank of mainsail so you can take sniffs if you get woozy?
