Introducing myself....
I'd like to take the opportunity to introduce myself, I have been lurking around for years - and find this site a incredible resource and have learned much from the members and the site content.
I currently own a Catalina 27 - which I upgraded / replaced every facet of the boat - from electrical, installation of gps, radar etc, ST 60 instruments, gutted the interior and re-designed it, as well as this summer roll-n-tipped the hull (that was a frustrating learning experience).
I considered the CAT-27 as a stepping stone in learning how to sail, as well an instrument to determine what I liked and disliked in what I considered a typical sailboat. At this juncture I am in the process of designing of my own - that will be totally run off of integrated solar panels (into the actual design versus hanging them), water turbines (internal versus the stringing the ones off the stern), and considering the Re-E-Power as the propulsion.
My background is as a electrical / sonar technician when I was in the submarine force, and now own a small IT company, and in all other areas very much a DIY-selfer and learn along the way. My second career if I can ever get the 'being whole artist attitude thing' - is to travel the world and just paint (hence the screen-name)....(I do it as a hobby as its just a talent)...
Hopefully, I can provide useful contributions here and there although would not consider myself an expert in anything....
Thanks for having me onboard...
