Feeling the "need for speed"? a neighbor of mine once gave me a beat up 16' with trailer, tu-tone hulls and no rigging (before the days of internet). i rigged it lateen style. cheezy, but it actually worked quite well wish i had a pic of that junker

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I cannot decide which is better, the sailing or the music.

SD, stay on the dark side!

When I was a kid and raced 470's we had a lot of friends with Hobbies 14 and 16 and one had an 18 with dagger boards.

We used to race and spend countless summer days in a sand atol that doesn't exist anymore due to "extremely well planned coastal erosion politics by some idiotic ridiculous loser governments" we had.

We allways had a blast we used to do water ski with the 18 and our favorite was the "marines landing" where you would come in fast into the sand with one float in the air, and dry the boat on one hull. Then once stopped, gently release the main and land...

We used to get pretty girls as girlfriends then...they preferd us to the other kids whose sport was soccer

Good memories...thanks

When I was a young Jedi, I learned to sail on a dinghy, then my brother bought a Hobie and we sailed that. It was a sail on a Cal 39 that brought me out of the darkside.

My family had a Hobie 16 when I was a teenager. My father rigged an "Easy Righter" system on it. What it did was allow you to temporarily lengthen one of the shrouds in the event of a capsize.

This made it easy for even a scrawny 120 pound person to right the boat.

I used to be able to fly hulls on it consistently in about 10 knots of wind. I remember once coming up from behind on a couple of teenage girls in a paddleboat. I lifted the hull right before I got to them and flew right over them.

I was impressed with myself.

They weren't.

I got a Hobie Wave last summer for my 11 and 14 year old kids. Fun, but not the same....

Thanks, also, for the memories!
