Bill Pinkney movie book mention

After recently watching the inspiring movie of Bill Pinkney (Bill Pinkey's Incredible Voyage) being the first AA to circumnavigate our blue planet, I'm wondering some about what inspired him to be so dedicated to his 'commitment'.

early on in the movie, there's a shot of him sitting in the boat, talking about how his early reading habits opened doors for him to get out of his South Side Chicago dilemma. Specifically, he brings up one book, about a boy and his sailing adventures, but doesn't give any more information about the book than that.

Anyone know of which book he speaks? Title? Author?
I'd really like to find out, and get a copy. Hope being, I can 'leave it around' for my kids to read;-)

Bill is a very nice guy. He's probably at the Chicago Boat Show this weekend. I know there are quite a few SailNetters going, perhaps if someone sees him they can ask. If not, I'll probably see him in Miami in a few weeks. If I see him there I'll ask about the book and let you know.

I have met him as well and heard him speak about his voyage many years ago. Quite inspirational...and a great role model for ALL kids.
