Marinas and haul out spots in Galveston or Texas City?

I'm moving to Galveston, TX this June and would like to know possible options where to keep my boat. It is a 27' sailboat with 4' draft. I'm pretty much a cheapskate so I'm not looking for anything fancy. I wouldn't be living aboard.

I do need to complete long overdue bottom work, including replacing a cutlass bearing so I'd like to know of haul out locations where I might keep the boat in a boatyard where I could do my own maintenance for 2wks-1month. I also need to drop the rudder in order to pull the shaft out, so I might as well replace the engine mounts and realign while I'm at it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A coUple of places that I'm aware of are Clear Lake Marine Center http://marinas.com/view/marina/4117 in the Clear Lake area and Pier 77 Marine http://www.pier77texas.com/ in Galveston.

I would guess, you're looking at a minimum of 3 weeks to sail her there, and that's without any significant weather delays.

If not living aboard, you may find it better to keep the boat on Clear Lake or further down the ICW, particularly from a cost standpoint. I believe South Texas Boatyard allows DYI.

I also recommend Ed Snyder, with Houston Yacht Sales if you're looking for a larger boat. A long time sailor in the area, he is a broker I don't hesitate to recommend.
